Get In The Game...By Nigel Ridgway

NFL - Looking Back on Week 12 *************************** An amazing 80 percent of last Sunday`s games were settled by single figure margins, the highest of the season so far, with three or less points separating the teams in seven of the fifteen contests. This is in contrast to the first four weeks of the season when the average NFL match was settled by a margin of 11.2 points! The reason for this could be that some teams entered the season in good shape while others were not and were easily brushed aside. Another reason could be that as the season wears on every team gets to know more about its forthcoming opponents, thereby creating close, harder to pick encounters. At least Week 12 was good for favourites, with only Cleveland and Denver losing, the latter now looking unlikely to secure even a wild-card berth after their disaster at home against the Bears! Kansas bounced back well after their first loss of the season, winning a close game against Oakland, and remain market leaders for the Super Bowl at 4/1. They share that honour, however, with Tennessee who dug themselves out of an early 21-0 hole, fighting back to beat Atlanta 38-31. Philadelphia (13/2) continued their hot run of form with a 33-20 win over the Saints, while Dallas (12/1) confirmed themselves as contenders with a hard fought victory against Carolina. Ahead to Week 13 **************** This week`s annual Thanksgiving games in Detroit and Dallas mark the start of Week 13. Green Bay, hoping to catch Minnesota at the top of the NFC North faces the Lions in the first of those matches, with second-up, an important game for both teams as Miami takes the road to Dallas. In Sunday`s live games, two Divisional leaders St. Louis and Minnesota do battle, after which the disappointing Browns have their last stab at seeing any post season action when they face the Seahawks, who themselves need a win to keep up the pressure on the Rams. On Monday night Tennessee should continue their impressive recent form against the Jets, who will see this as their final fling of the season!
