Kent State (16-2, 9-1 MAC) rallied from 19 points down to win its seventh straight, 70-60 over Miami of Ohio. The Red Hawks (9-10, 7-3) had their five-game winning streak stopped.
Mike Benton`s tip-in with 11 seconds left lifted the College of Charleston to a 71-69 victory over North Carolina-Greensboro. The Cougars (17-5, 7-2 Southern) won its sixth in a row. College of Charleston coach Tom Herrion tied the school record for most wins by a first-year coach, matching his predecessor John Kresse`s 17-11 mark during the 1979-80 season.
Arkansas State guard Tevoris Thompson came off the bench to score 33 points, 26 in the first half, in an 86-76 Sun Belt Conference victory over Arkansas-Little Rock. The Indians snapped a five-game losing streak against their in-state rival.
Wofford posted a 98-82 win against Davidson as the Terriers (9-10, 5-4 Southern) are off to their best conference start since the 1999-2000 season. Utah defeated New Mexico 78-68 for its fourth straight win. The Utes (16-4, 4-1 MWC) won their 11th game in their last 12 and improved to 11-0 at home this season. New Mexico (7-12, 1-5) dropped its third straight game and has lost 14 in a row on the road, its longest streak since the Lobos had a 14-game skid over the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons.
Missouri out rebounded Kansas 38-29, had 10 3-pointers while the Jayhawks had just two, yet the Jayhawks still found a way to beat Missouri 76-70. The Jayhawks (16-5, 6-1 Big 12) won their 15th straight conference home game. All of Missouri`s (13-5, 4-3 Big 12) losses this season have come away from home.
San Diego State posted 80-70 victory over Wyoming. The Aztecs (12-7, 3-3 MWC) handed the Cowboys only their second loss in 15 games and broke its own three-game losing streak. Wyoming`s only other loss in its last 15 games was at No. 12 Kansas on Jan. 15. Brigham Young posted a 65-33 victory over Air Force. Air Force has lost 12 straight in Provo and six of the last seven meetings against BYU.
Pitt (16-2, 6-1 Big East) won for the seventh time in eight games with a 68-61 win over Providence.
East Carolina (11-9, 2-7) lost for the seventh time in eight games with a 73-49 loss to Memphis.
Austin Peay handed Tennessee State its 14th straight loss, 82-57.
South Florida (11-8, 4-4 Conference USA) edged TCU 71-67 to improve to 10-1 at the Sun Dome.
Florida hardly lived up to it.s first-ever No. 1 ranking as Kentucky used overwhelming defense to beat the Gators 70-55, snapping Florida`s 14-game winning streak. Kentucky (17-3, 7-0 SEC), which won its 11th straight game, its longest winning streak in coach Tubby Smith`s six seasons. The Wildcats haven`t won their first seven league games since 1997-98, their last national championship season. Kentucky hasn`t lost since Dec. 28, 81-63 to Louisville.
Baylor (10-8, 1-6) captured its first Big 12 victory this season with a 77-69 win over Texas A&M.
Jasper Johnson hit a 15-foot jumper from the baseline with a second left to give Southern Mississippi an 82-80 victory over Alabama-Birmingham in double overtime. The Golden Eagles (10-9, 3-5 Conference USA) snapped a five-game losing streak.
Colorado (13-7, 3-4 Big 12), beat a Top 10 team for the second time in 13 days, with a 93-80 upset over Texas.
Cincinnati junior guard Tony Bobbitt, one of the basketball team`s top substitutes, quit after being absent from practice on Monday and Tuesday.
Western Kentucky star center Chris Marcus` ended his college basketball career. Marcus withdrew from the team to focus on rehabilitation for his injuries. The 7-foot-1 senior has been bothered by foot and ankle problems for the past two seasons.
Northwestern stunned Indiana 74-61, beating the Hoosiers for the first time in 15 years. It was the fourth straight loss for Indiana (14-7, 4-4 Big Ten), which wrapped up a road trip that included stops at Purdue, Michigan State and Louisville. Northwestern (9-10, 1-7) snapped a seven-game losing streak with its first Big Ten win.
Louisville extended the nation`s longest active winning streak to 16 games with a 77-71 victory over Cincinnati. The winning streak is the longest for Louisville since the 1985-86 squad won its final 17 games en route to the NCAA championship. The Bearcats (13-6, 6-3) are in danger of not winning at least a share of the Conference USA regular-season title for the first time in the league`s eight-year history.
LSU (13-7, 2-6, SEC) broke a five-game losing streak with an easy 71-58 victory over South Carolina.
Bob Knight became the fourth Division I coach to win 800 games, reaching the mark by guiding Texas Tech over Nebraska 75-49.
Duke (15-3, 5-3 ACC) beat North Carolina (11-10, 2-6) for the sixth straight time with an 83-74 win. It was the Tar Heels` fifth straight loss.
Edward Scott`s 12-foot jumper with 21 seconds left lifted Clemson to a 69-67 victory over Georgia Tech, breaking the Tigers four-game losing streak. The Tigers handed Tech its eighth-straight loss on the road this season.
Oklahoma State (18-2, 7-1 Big 12) got back on track, after its 15-game winning streak was snapped, with a 63-55 victory over Kansas State. KSU (11-9, 2-5) lost for the fifth time in six games and dropped to 0-4 on the road in conference play.
Alabama (13-6, 3-5) lost its fifth straight game on the road with an 81-70 loss at Arkansas. The Crimson Tide`s record dropped to 2-5 since it beat Arkansas at home Jan. 8.
Iowa posted a 75-55 victory over Penn State. The Nittany Lions (5-14, 0-8) are still without a win in the Big Ten, their worst start since joining the conference in 1992-93.
Auburn beat Mississippi 77-71, snapping a three-game losing streak. Auburn maintained its lead in the SEC West and is 16-2 when scoring more than 72 points this season, doing it this time against the nation`s No. 3 scoring defense.
Boston College (11-8, 4-4) has won three Big East games in a row after starting out 1-4 in the conference with an 84-82 win over St. John`s.
Weber State posted a 82-76 victory over Idaho State. The Wildcats (17-5, 7-0 Big Sky) have won eight in a row.
UC Irvine has an easy 78-61 victory over UC Riverside. The Anteaters (12-7, 6-4 Big West), who snapped a three game losing streak that was their longest since the 1999-2000 season. They now have beaten UC Riverside (4-12, 3-7) six straight and eight of the last nine meetings.
Southern California edged UCLA 86-85 to complete a sweep of their cross-town rivals for the first time since 1992. The loss extended UCLA`s losing streak to nine games making it the worst losing skid since 1940-41 when they lost 10 in a row.
Tulsa coach John Phillips dismissed senior guard Antonio Reed for violating team policy. Tulsa (11-7, 4-5 WAC) faces Rice on Saturday after three-straight WAC losses.
Michigan (13-8) is coming off two consecutive road losses to Illinois and Minnesota after winning the previous 13 in a row. The Wolverines are 6-2 in the conference, one game behind first-place Purdue. Wake Forest beat North Carolina State 73-58. The Demon Deacons (16-2, 6-2) secured their best start in the Atlantic Coast Conference since going 7-1 in 1997.
Virginia won its first ACC road game of the season in improbable fashion. The Cavaliers erased a 12-point deficit with a 16-0 second-half run as and stunned Maryland 86-78. The Terrapins (14-5, 6-2), whose five-game winning streak ended, had won 14 straight ACC home games and were 11-1 at home.
Southern Illinois beat Drake 65-64. The Salukis (15-4 overall, 10-1 MVC) are in a first-place tie in the conference with Creighton. Drake (2-8, 7-14) lost its fourth straight and 10 of their last 12.
Long Beach State posted a 79-73 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The 49ers (4-15, 3-7 Big West) have beaten the Titans four straight times at Long Beach. Cal State Fullerton (6-14, 4-6) has lost seven of its last eight games. Eastern Washington held off Montana State 78-74. The victory kept EWU (14-8, 6-2 Big Sky) undefeated in eight home games this season and snapped a two-game losing streak. The Bobcats (9-12, 3-5) dropped their seventh straight road game. Montana State`s only road win came against Washington in its season opener.
Kent State survived a late scare and defeated Bowling Green 73-67. The Flashes (17-2 overall, 10-1 conference), who have won eight consecutive games and 13 in a row on the road in the Mid-American.
California defeated Oregon State 84-71. The Golden Bears have won eight straight over the Beavers.
Arizona State beat Washington State 87-54. The Cougars have lost 10 consecutive games, 17 Pac-10 games in a row and 29 of their last 30 Pac-10 games.
