CASH IN WITH THE TERRIFIC TEN
Yesterday we showed you twelve teams who have been consistent money-burners of late vs. the Las Vegas lines. The current set of oddsmakers out West had consistently OVERRTED those teams. Now, we give you a terrific ten that Vegas has consistently UNDERRATED.
BOISE STATE: 24-9 ATS their last 33, were off last week.
CALIFORNIA: 10-4 ATS their last 14, including 2-0 this year with covers over Kansas State and Southern Mississippi.
CINCINNATI: 13-4 ATS their last 17, including a 40-3 blowout win over East Carolina on Monday.
COLORADO: 9-2 ATS their last 11, including an outright victory as an underdog last week vs. Colorado State.
CONNECTICUT: 17-5 ATS their last 22, including a rout of Indiana last Saturday.
GEORGIA: 16-6 ATS their last 22, including a rout of Clemson last Saturday.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS: 13-3 ATS their last 16, including a big upset of nationally ranked Maryland last Thursday night.
NC STATE: 13-5 ATS their last 18, looking sharp in a non board game last week.
SOUTHERN CAL: 14-6 ATS their last 20, including a huge win at Auburn last Saturday.
TULANE: 8-3 ATS last year, including a cover Monday night at home vs. TCU.
The Dirty Dozen we gave you yesterday went 0-12 ATS in their opening games. This group of ten is 9-0 ATS so far this year. Boise State and NC State haven`t played board games yet, but California has played two.
Just asking teams to continue doing what they had already been doing adds up to 21-0 ATS so far this season. That should be all the evidence you need to see how "slow to react" the current crop of oddsmakers are in Las Vegas.
NFL SPREAD MARKS
With the NFL season starting tonight, let`s take a quick refresher on the best and worst pointspread teams from 2002. These are the teams Vegas was slow to react to in the pros.
The "Money Makers" Oakland 10-5-1 Cleveland 10-5-1 Tampa Bay 10-6 Philadelphia 10-6 Tennessee 10-6 Atlanta 10-6 Carolina 10-6 Baltimore 10-6
The "Money Burners" Chicago 4-12 St. Louis 4-12 Cincinnati 4-12 San Francisco 5-11 New England 6-10 Indianapolis 6-10 Pittsburgh 5-9-2
Note that nobody was as GOOD as Chicago, St. Louis, and Cincinnati were BAD. If you`re hoping to ride your favorite team to riches, it`s going to be a little harder than you think. You`re much better off trying to go against the public`s favorite teams (Chicago and St. Louis were both playoff teams the prior year) or against teams that don`t bother to show up most weeks (Cincy may try harder this year, but a different team is likely to go in the tank if September doesn`t go their way).
